C. Albert Koob, O.Praem Award
The C. Albert Koob Merit Award is given to an individual or organization that has made a significant contribution to Catholic education at any level – early childhood, elementary, secondary, higher education –or in any educational setting, in one or more of these areas: teaching, administration, parish religious education, research, publication or educational leadership. Such service or contribution should be recognized as having current significance at the national level.
John F. Meyers Award
The John F. Meyers Award is presented to "someone who has supported Catholic education" in any of the above-mentioned ways or through such contributions as development, public relations, scholarship programs, financial management, or government relations. This award, too, recognizes national impact.
Catherine T. McNamee, CSJ Award
The Catherine T. McNamee, CSJ Award is presented to an individual or school for leadership in promoting a vision of Catholic education that welcomes and serves cultural and economic diversity or serving students with diverse needs.
Leonard F. DeFiore Parental Choice Advocate Award
The Leonard F. DeFiore Parental Choice Advocate Award is presented to individuals who have demonstrated outstanding leadership in promoting full and fair parental choice in education.
Elizabeth Ann Seton Awards
NCEA's Seton Award was created to honor those individuals whose personal or professional philanthropy or volunteer service has impacted Catholic education in particular or U.S. education and our country's youth in general. Named after Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton in recognition of her lifelong dedication to teaching, those receiving Seton Awards have a $1,000 scholarship presented in their honor to a deserving Catholic school student from their community.

Awards Given by the The Department of Elementary Schools
Each fall, the superintendent of schools in each arch/diocese in the country is invited to nominate one principal from the arch/diocese for this award. From these nominees, twelve principals are selected each year to receive the award at the NCEA Convention. These twelve principals are chosen by members of the Department of Elementary Schools Executive Committee (DESEC). To find out who your DESEC representative is, click here. From these twelve principals, three are nominated to receive the National Distinguished Principal Award from the U.S. Department of Education. Download the application to your computer, complete it, and then mail the required number of copies to your DESEC representative.
NCEA Distinguished Teacher Award
The NCEA Sister Miriam Joseph Farrell, PBVM
Distinguished Teacher Award
Each fall every member school is invited to nominate one teacher for this award. Twelve teachers are selected each year to receive the award at the NCEA Convention. Applications are sent to all member schools in the fall. This award has the corporate support of Mutual of America. The principal should download the application to his or her computer, fill it out, and send the requisite number of copies to the appropriate DESEC representative.
This annual award, presented by the NCEA Department of Elementary Schools, was established in honor of Sister Miriam Joseph Farrell, PBVM, who served as executive secretary of the Department until her illness and death in 1970. Nationally prominent in education, Sister Miriam Joseph was appointed by President Johnson to the President's Title II Advisory Commission. Earlier she served as supervisor of elementary schools for the Archdiocese of San Francisco, as director of education for her religious community, and as teacher and principal of elementary schools.
The award was established in her honor in 1981 and is presented to one teacher in each of the twelve geographic regions into which the department divides the country. The first award was presented in 1982 at the NCEA Convention in
Chicago. The department acknowledges that in honoring these twelve teachers each year, it also honors the tens of thousands of outstanding teachers in all Catholic elementary schools.
NCEA Distinguished Home and School Association Award in honor of Mrs. Maxine J. Donahue
Each year, the NCEA Department of Elementary Schools honors Home and School Associations who have created outstanding programs to enhance the life of the school community. The Maxine J. Blader Donohue Awards are presented at a banquet during the annual NCEA Convention. The president of the home and school association should download the application to his or her computer, complete it online, and then mail the information to:

Maxine J. Blader Donahue was an Executive Director of the National Catholic School Parent's Federaton and was a regular contributor to articles for NCEA publications related to parent involvement in the schools. Mrs. Donahue died in September 1998. It is most fitting that this award is named in her honor.
The NCEA Distinguished Pastor Award
The Department of Elementary Schools recently established the NCEA Distinguished Pastor Award to be presented for the first time at the 2008 Convention. This annual award is presented to honor pastors who have given outstanding support to Catholic elementary education. The department acknowledges that in honoring these pastors, it also honors the many pastors who give their support to Catholic elementary schools throughout the

NCEA Distinguished Graduate Award
This award is intended to honor graduates of Catholic elementary/middle schools who have made a contribution to American life and/or the Catholic Church. The recipient must have graduated from the Catholic elementary/middle school at least ten years prior to presenting the award. The individual school selects the awardee and NCEA confirms the nomination. For a price of $25.00, NCEA sends to the school for presentation to the awardee: a 14K gold pin and an engraved certificate signed by the leadership of the NCEA Department of Elementary Schools and to be signed and dated by the principal and pastor. NCEA also sends suggestions for the awards program and a sample press release. This program has provided very favorable information to the public about the local Catholic school. Commendations
An NCEA Department of Elementary Schools commendation can be given to honor a retiring principal or teacher, a member of the school board, school secretary, or someone who has completed a significant number of years with a school. NCEA's Department of Secondary School Awards
The Secondary Schools Department honors Catholic school educators who deserve national recognition and reflect the richness and diversity of American Catholic education. Nominees are persons who have made significant contributions in a variety of rolls including administrators, faculty, staff, board leadership and athletic and co-curricular advisors.
The Michael J. Guerra Leadership Award
Instituted by the Secondary Schools Department’s Executive Committee of the National Catholic Educational Association, the award honors Michael Guerra, the NCEA Secondary Schools Department’s Executive Director from 1982 to 2001. This national award, launched at the NCEA convention in 2001, recognizes Michael Guerra’s vision, his leadership and his extraordinary commitment to the mission of Catholic secondary school education. The Award serves to advance this vision as it acclaims the significant contributions of a selected educator. The MJG Leadership Award is bestowed annually at the NCEA convention to an educator whose impact on Catholic Secondary Schools will have a distinctive and lasting impact

The NPCD Emmaus Award for Excellence in Catechesis is given to someone with a national or international reputation for having, over a period of more than ten years, made a significant contribution to the field of Catholic catechesis through writing, publishing, teaching, administration or research. Since 1992 the NPCD has given the Mustard Seed Award as recognition to parishes where great efforts are made to involve parents in parish catechetical programs. While the parish receives the award the pastor and parish catechetical leader are recognized for their leadership in fostering adult catechesis for parents. Download the 2009 nomination brochure. Outstanding Board Award [More Information]
Each year the Department of Boards and Councils of Catholic Education recognizes boards, councils, and commissions of Catholic education whose work is outstanding. This award acknowledges outstanding work, encourages excellence, and provides models for other governance groups. Awardees go through a selection process after completing an application/questionnaire. Everyone is invited to the award ceremony, which takes place at a Wednesday luncheon and open forum at the NCEA annual convention.
O'Neil D'Amour Award [More Information]
The O'Neil D'Amour Award is given to an individual in recognition of an outstanding contribution of statewide, regional, national, or international significance to boards of Catholic education. It is presented at the Board Award Luncheon on Wednesday at the NCEA annual convention.
