Dr. John J. Convey received the Monsignor O’Neil D’Amour Award from Dr. Regina Haney, executive director of the department, in recognition of his 28 years of professional work which, spanning the country, has focused on research and strategic planning for Catholic Schools.
John Convey is the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Professor of Education and former Provost at the Catholic University of America. Dr. Convey joined the faculty at CUA in 1974 and served as Provost from 1997 to 2007. His professional work focuses on research and strategic planning for Catholic schools. Over the past 28 years he has conducted diocesan-wide planning and evaluation studies for Catholic schools around the country. The process he uses involves Boards in the development and the implementation of strategic plans. Where there are no Boards, recommendations include starting them. This gives Boards a rightful place around the table in setting the direction for schools and assisting with realizing that direction.
Dr. Convey has authored, co-authored or edited 8 books and numerous articles on Catholic education including the 1997 NCEA publication co-authored with Dr. Haney; Benchmarks of Excellence: Effective Boards of Catholic Education. This work sparked new thinking regarding boards, councils and commissions of Catholic education.
