Catechetical Sunday 2012: Catechists and Teachers as Agents of the New Evangelization
Catechetical Sunday 2012: Catechists and Teachers as Agents of the New Evangelization
Each year, the Catholic Church in the United States designates the third Sunday in September as “Catechetical Sunday.” Sunday, September 16, 2012 is set aside to acknowledge those whom the community calls forth to serve as catechists in parishes and Catholic schools. In many places, these men and women will rededicate themselves to the mission of catechesis and be commissioned for their ministry within a community of faith. The 2012 theme "Catechists and Teachers as Agents of the New Evangelization" invites all those in our faith and learning communities to reflect on their own Baptism and each person’s role in witnessing to the Gospel and in handing on the faith. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops offers many resources to assist in the celebration of Catechetical Sunday throughout the year. The resources include an article on adolescent catechesis and discipleship by Fr. John Serio, SDB who serves as an NCEA representative in the Partnership for Adolescent Catechesis.
